Quick History of Tesla
Tesla was founded by not Elon Musk, but by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in 2003. Musk later joined in 2004 with a $6.5 million dollar investment and became the chairman of the board of directors. A lawsuit settlement in 2009 allowed the five earliest Tesla employees (including Musk) to call themselves co-founders. Tesla's first car was the Roadster, a two-door sports car based on the Lotus Elise. The Roadster was the first highway-legal electric production car and had a range of 250 miles.
